Yes indeed, Jessie Baston, "don la rue" Thanks for that, she was aright tartar and went very red in the face at us cos we were as thick as pork when it came to learning French!

Hi y'all..sorry 'eyup..I thing Jessie b..was the female counterpart of Harry Beynon,but my fave was Millie Mallender.She used to give me and PAUL Hyde a newspaper to read during English to keep us quiet!The sick room was on the balcony by the way.

I got caned along with Ren,Freeko,Higg and Peety by Frank Pinion after we stuffed Billy Kidds piano with shoes and newspaper...happy days eh ?Whodathoughtit,me a pro musician in the afetrschool life and never had interest in it at school.c'est la vie.

yes and they would leave on time..many a time we got left behind after we finished the 2 mile treck from the soccer fields back to get our stuff,get changed all in the space of 10 minutes.I think you all had Maxwells coaches and Kiveton had a train.eeeh luxury eh?

I remember now..where in France are you.?I lived in Jersey(can see France from there)for about 4 years doing Summer seasons with Frankie Vaughan and Leslie Crowther and did a year in Pornichet,Brittany in the late 60s with the Four Blades.

hiall,gotta mention this.some 1 mentioned the sick room,well when i was at swallownest[not the posh address-tho i used the high school bit on c-v-s-lol]the school nurse was famed 4 giving u an aspirin 4 wotever ailed u.now i was in there 1 day with a feigned lesson skipping ailment & this poor lad was carried in screaming & carrying on & placed on the couch,he'd hurt his arm in a rugby tackle,the nurse undressed his top half & proceeded 2 rub an aspirin on his arm [which it transpired was broken] then after much oooin & arrrrrin on her part went 2 call an ambulance, no mean feat in pre mobile days.needless 2 say after witnessing such a highlevel of medical care if ought appened 2 me & the mates we grinned & bore it-lol.

I was at Woodhouse Grammar School Sept 1951 to Jul 1958 and was from Swallownest. Knew a lot of people from Brinsworth, Catcliffe and Treeton at the time, some i am still in weekly e mail contact with.

Re the Horners, you are right they were a kind of missionary. I knew them for many years, they had a daughter by the name of Joan, who also went to WGS and was in my year. They lived on West Park Drive, Swallownest, just over the top of Park Hill, there is a right hand turn into West Park Drive. In the 1950's and earlier Mr horner was an RAF Padre, Mrs Horner was a shcool teacher, but i do not remember which school. I do not remember her teaching at Swallownest School before i left in Sept 1951.
