pattricia
Yes, according to The Mail, students are going to be allowed a certain amount of Text talk slang in written exam answers. Can you believe it ? The examiners say it is acceptable as long as they show an understanding of the subject. They can use phrases such as " 2b r nt 2b" or " i luv u" , but cannot expect to gain high marks.(I should think so) This is really dumbing down ,I believe. :suspect:
fluffystuff
This is so so wrong. I am so sick off all this text speak. In fact whenever anyone on SF uses it, i stop reading. It is just sheer laziness

It is just sheer laziness [/quote Yes lazy does come to mind.I know they have to really use text on their phones, but no need to carry on with it during proper writing. When I was at school our text books were gone through with a fine toothcomb by the teachers. Just one letter or word spelt wrong, and we had to write it out 50 times, until we knew it.Then later on in nursing exams, even though we had to write long medical phrases(no dictionary was allowed) wrong spellings were ringed with a heavy red pencil. kittencapes
What a joke! What is the point of learning subjects like English if we are encouraging kids to speak like a load of morons, this stupid text talk drives me crazy as it is! its like cracking a code half the time! Hardly the place for text speak. I'd hope that at the very least such writing is severely penalised when used in English language/literature exams. Does the Daily Mail have a link or a quote for where they obtained details of this examination policy, and what board it refers to?

Guest
I'm sure you're making a good point, but if you want me to read it, please write it in standard English. Cheers.
