peterw
It’s in the news today, and apparently the research put into this bold statement was “conducted by the Policy Research Bureau and crime reduction charity Nacro looked at Asbos given to under-18s between January 2004 and January 2005 in 10 areas of England and Wales.” All I can say is that they went to a lot of trouble. They could have found out simply by reading SF!
kittencapes
I heard they are planning on posting pictures up in city centres of everyone with an ASBO - now thats what I call a good idea, public shame and name them! Whether it will work is another matter, as you say about the badge of honour, they will probably be proud!
evildrneil
Naming and shaming probably won't work - firstly because they probably have no shame and secondly because it will only add to the 'bad boy' cachet of an ASBO.
LordChaverly
Can't we have some forum ASBOs? - i.e. certain posters would be required to keep away from certain threads, or could only post at certain times of the day?
Sweetcheeks
An ASBO is seen as the equivalent of an A Level in the world of the pee-witted.
Pseudonym
Just as ASBO's are seen as a badge of honour, so also to many of their peers, is time spent in a young offenders institute and time served in prison. Singapore has a cheap and effective solution, the same treatment meted out to our thugs, vandals, hooligans and habitual criminals would I suspect, greatly reduce the general crime rate... Very few who were punished by these methods would be inclined to boast about it afterwards and even fewer would be tempted to re-offend!
