ASBOs seen as badge of honour!

Recommended Posts

It’s in the news today, and apparently the research put into this bold statement was “conducted by the Policy Research Bureau and crime reduction charity Nacro looked at Asbos given to under-18s between January 2004 and January 2005 in 10 areas of England and Wales.”

All I can say is that they went to a lot of trouble. They could have found out simply by reading SF!

I heard they are planning on posting pictures up in city centres of everyone with an ASBO - now thats what I call a good idea, public shame and name them! Whether it will work is another matter, as you say about the badge of honour, they will probably be proud!

Just as ASBO's are seen as a badge of honour, so also to many of their peers, is time spent in a young offenders institute and time served in prison.

Singapore has a cheap and effective solution, the same treatment meted out to our thugs, vandals, hooligans and habitual criminals would I suspect, greatly reduce the general crime rate... Very few who were punished by these methods would be inclined to boast about it afterwards and even fewer would be tempted to re-offend!
