Paying to park outside your home. A Lib Dem council is introducing it, apparently its all about saving the planet and not raising taxes

Not heard of this idea. Presumeably, if you are able to park on your driveway, you won't have to pay this proposed green tax?

Try watch the news, can be eye opening. Newsnight is good.

Parking on your driveway is a good idea, however, that can be a problem if you don't have a driveway (ie live in a terrace house)

I don't have a tv. Personal choice - have now been without a telly for over a decade now.

Good idea, but the revenue must be used to lower other taxes such as income tax (otherwise it is just a tax hike!)

The Lib Dems' Green Tax Switch does this - the policy would cut the basic rate of income tax by 2p and take millions of the lowest earners out of the income tax system altogether. I'd imagine most people reading this forum would pay less in tax, not more.

Labour and the Conservatives seem to be following suit, which is an excellent development.

As to the Richmond residents' parking scheme that Lester_Bigot mentioned - it's actually an alteration to an existing scheme (the residents in question already pay for their parking spaces, as is common in many London boroughs). They're switching from paying a flat fee to one dependent on the category of car you drive (it's not necessary an increase - for example LPG and electric cars can park for free).

I think they expect to raise an additional £1m - but as far as I'm aware they've not announced any additional spending plans, so hopefully it should be used to keep council tax down (in keeping with the Green Tax Switch philosophy).
