Bole Hill Quarry Grindleford

Hello. Does anyone know of photos or books showing the quarry in its working days in the early 1900s? Also of the railway that carried the stone from Bamford to the Derwent Valley? The stone to build the Derwent and Howden dams came from this quarry. Thanks

Try the books "Memories of Tin Town" and "Howden and Derwent" by Brian Robinson, you can get them from WH Smith or the information centre at Fairholmes near Derwent Dam.

The Dam Busters museum in the west tower of Derwent Dam (open Sundays) has loads of displays about the building of the dams.

Thanks for your replies. I've seen the photos in the dam museum and as interesting as they are, there is not much about the railway. Next time I am up Derwent, I will have a look at the books. My interest was sparked after visiting the quarry and walking the track bed between Bamford and Ladybower.
