shorty558
On Wednesday night i went into the manor fish bar and was suprised to see a very ill looking alsatian dog. His eyes were weeping and bloodshot and he kept twitching his head. He looked really ill and depressed! When i discovered that he didnt belog to anybody there i called 101 who said they'd contact the RSPCA. Still not settled i called the RSPCA myself which was closed and told me to contact the dog warden as they dont pick up strays. The dog warden only works 9 - 5. I then called the dog rescue centres and animal sancturys and the PDSA in the phone book, they were all closed!!!! I then called the police at west bar and moss way, because i was concerened for the dog and welfare of other people. The help desks were unavailable!!! I got very upset that after 5pm there's no help for these poor stray animals After an hour of trying west bar police station called me and told me if i could get the dog in my car it could stay in their kennels, but by this time the dog had gone off into the cold rain. if anybody sees a dog like this please try to help it. sooz22
there was a similar thread to this on the pets forum not so long ago which culminated in several people writing to the police force to complain about the lack of assistance. Maybe you should post this on there?
shorty558
The thing i found suprising was that when the police called me they wanted me and my partner to get the stray dog into our car and take it to the station. There was no consideration for our welfare! What if the dog would have attacked us whilst trying to get it in the car. Or worse still if it attacked us whilst driving!! Plain Talker
didn't you know? crises only happen between 9 and 5, on weekdays, they never happen after 5pm, or at weekends! or should that be "crises are only ALLOWED to happen during office hours".(removes tongue from cheek) it absolutely stinks, doesn't it? poor dog... I hope it's sorted, now?
Lotti
The situation is terrible. We had fun and games when we found a husky dog wandering the streets. She was obviously well cared for, unlike this poor soul you describe and I wanted to find her owners who were probably incredibly worried. The dog warden had gone, Hammerton Police Station deal with dogs and they had closed, I asked 'well have they had any lost reports. They couldn't tell me from their station, it had to be Hammerton Rd, why not put it on a database?? She ended up staying the night with us and we put radio messages out and adverts on doglost, as well as leaving a message with the most reliable member of the police force, the answer machine. Finally in the morning, Hammerton Rd contacted us to say that yesterday at 2pm (we found her at 7pm!) a husky had been reported missing and they put the woman who lost her in touch with us. She'd been going out of her mind with worry and could've been reunited with her dog over 12 hours earlier had there been a sufficient system.
