It's about time that they put the Champagne Socialist Rony Robinson out to grass too. He's got so self important the last couple of years and his boring phone-in has me heading for Radio 5 just so I don't have to hear...

"ello Rony - it's me, Eric, I've just come out of hospital 'cos I'm 82 now - do you remember that chat we 'ad 4 years ago on the number 12 about 'ow we went tadpole collecting when we wer' kids? Young 'un's today dont know they're born"

I like many others wrongly blamed Toby for Tony's removal. I do think that he was treated really shoddily but there are two sides to every story. Tony was a great personaility and really struck a chord with so many people in S Yorks.

I do think that a radio station needs a variety of personalities to make it interesting and to appeal to a wide audience otherwise you get a situation as on childrens tv....all presenters are lookalikes and even have the same sickly squeaky voice.

Rony is wonderful . He is kind to callers some of who are not articulate but he never makes them look foolish.

He talks about things that matter (well most of the time) and always tries to put both sides of the argument.

Without him the station would have little to offer me for one and I'm not ready to draw my pension for many years yet.

Plus don't forget that the listeners you are rubbishing were the youngsters of the day when radio Sheffield first started.

I must say having spent time with Cappo and listening to his show day in day out over the last few years, i felt sad when he had to leave. But i must say when i heard Toby Foster i wasn't really that impressed at first, but he grew on me and i find him a fantastic and a very talented young chap. He is funny, witty, charming on radio. This is what Radio Sheffield has needed for a long time a good presenter who can stand is own ground. Good on ya Tobes.xx. Jaytee.P.S Can someone tell me why Ronie is still at Radio Sheffield?.xx.

Adam Adam, were you passed over for a job in radio or something? I only ask because you sound bitter as wormwood.

To be perfectly honest, I always found Radio Sheffield as interesting an idea as a dipping my old lad in honey and taunting a wasps nest. That all changed since I tuned in to listen to Foster and on the back of that, I've started listening to Rony's phone-in show, Antonia Brickell (alright, she's a bit odd but leave her alone eh?) and Football Heaven.

The Toby show is superb. I really can't see how he is a 'clone' of all other presenters out there, because he simply isn't. Have any of you ever heard the likes of Radio Humberside? Good god, get a grip people and thank your lucky stars!

As for Rony's show being tired, well I think in truth it's his listeners who tend to be due for pasture. The vast majority of his phone debates end up going the same way thanks to the prejudices, preconceptions and I'm sorry to say this, the general lack of intelligence so many of these callers have. YOU try fashioning a lively debate from that lot!

That's sad - I just heard it on R Sheff too.

This morning's "Phone Rony" should be interesting. I wonder if there will be a station exec sat in the corner of the studio making sure that they don't get slagged off by callers.

Shame about his death, he was a great local character, it will be interesting to find out how he died. I cant help thinking that it may be linked to his removal from Radio Sheffield. Maybe he was depressed? Bored? or maybe it was not linked at all.

Sad news - These days there are few LOCAL people

on local radio - back in the 70's both Hallam and Sheffield

had locals on who you could relate to.

The last time I heard Tony on air he played 'We Gotta Get Out

Of This Place' by The Animals.

As you may know the first verse -- "In this dirty old part of

of the city where the sun refused to shine" Tony cuts in

at this point with - "Darnall"

RIP

I have just read about his death on the BBC News website and was shocked.

There was a quote from BBC radio Sheffield which said that he had been unable to work due to ill health since the new year, which would suggest that's why he left, but perhaps didn't want the public to know he was ill.
