Clairy
Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaase can anyone donate anything that I can auction off at a forthcoming charity ladies evening. I already have a couple of items, but we need at least 4 more. All the proceeds go to WellBeing of Women, a national charity who fund research into women's health, e.g. cancer, pregnancy & childbirth. Anything would be MOST greatly appreciated. Last year we had such things as meals at restaurants, tickets to shows, designer jewellery etc. If you have a company that would like to donate something, we can put flyers or business cards into our auction packs that we give to all the ladies to advertise your business. cgksheff
I've just had a look at the WoW website and if I am reading it correctly, nearly half of the money raised is spent on fundraising/administration. In 2005, £933,834 was spend on the charities objectives, £530,376 was spent on Fundraising and Admin. While some would say 'Any Money is better than No Money', I find these overheads excessive. Clairy
Thank you for your comments. However, I have absolutely nothing to do with the national fundraising effort. All I can say is that I spend a lot of my own time and effort organising these local events in my spare time, and the cost of the event is very low compared to the funds raised on the night. If I actually charged the charity for my time, it would run into thousands of pounds. However, I just do this to help out with a cause I feel is worth supporting. beansforyou
I think it's great that you spare your time to support people in need, but surely you must be interested in where the money your hard work brings in, goes to? I don't think CKG was having a go at you in any way, just letting you and others about to part with their money & time know what it goes towards. Elphi 24
I dont think its quite as simple as that. Obviously most charities try to keep their fundraising costs down. However, some charities, particularly those that do community/grass roots fundraising have very high costs associated with the fundraising. Also you have to look at whether this was a one off, for example if a charity has invested in say, a donor management/membership programme in a particular year this can give skewed costs. There are issues around the management of charities, the field is becoming more and more competitive and so it has to be slick and therefore pay a decent salary to people. This is often way under what you would earn in the private sector and people do go into it for the cause. This obviously increases costs. Add to that the fact that most government agencies and trusts are still reluctant to pay the full economic costs of projects then this will give a skewed figure as charities have to meet these costs from existing reserves and investments

Bago
What exactly are you looking for ? Last year we had such things as meals at restaurants, tickets to shows, designer jewellery etc. Well, I'm not a business, but just a homeowner who is trying to gut her house out. I might have some small items that can be used for a raffle though.
