babychickens
Hey folks, fountain of all knowledge that you (collectively) are, could anyone tell me where I could find mother/baby swimming sessions where someone tells you what to do with your baby? babybabychickens is 4.5 months old, and someone i know (but can't get in touch with) is taking her baby to sessions somewhere near psalter lane - her baby is only 4 months, but from what i can tell most places only run classes/sessions from 6 months. does anyone know which pool that might be, or any other pools taht run baby lessons? cheers, bc edit to add http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=33028&highlight=swimming+baby there was a thread about this about a year ago (although all are for 6 months plus), but the question still stands regarding the pool near psalter lane. perhaps i'm going mad and it doesn't really exist. Zebra
I thin there's one at Myrtle SPrings school, run by Surestart but you don't have to live in a Surestart area there are just two pricing structures and I think they aim for over 3 months. That's what I found out but couldn't go without someone else since I've got two babies.
*vanessa*
Heeley swimming pool, do several sessions a week, with Carers and Babies sessions, they have music and they tell you what to do with your baby to the music. I think its about £3.70 a session. I've been a few times, before the summer and We will be starting up again after half term, My daughter absolutely loves it there. You should be able to look up their timetable info via the council website.
cosywolf
I go to Heeley every Monday for Aquababes, 10am to 11pm. There is no age limit - I took Cosycub from his second jabs onwards, but some start earlier. There is music, and a coach who guides you through exercises aimed at getting older babies to start figuring out how to swim, and get younger babies used to the water and moving about in it. There is also unstructured playing time before and after the 'lesson'. It's £3.80 unless you have a slice card, or a Heeley card. There are small cubicles for changing, or one big changing room with a playpen, and changing mats. Generally it's very warm, too. Very enjoyable. But you should phone ahead and book: 2500443 Aquababes Monday: 10-11 Wednesday: 9.30-10.30, 1.30-2.30 Thursday: 1.30-2.30 Sunday: 8.30-9.15, 9.15-
sall242003
We also go to Heeley aquababes. After trying Hillsborough and Myrtle we decided that Heeley is the best and warmest pool. Hillsborough and Myrtle where so cold I took my little boy out as he was verging on turning blue Also the instructer at Heeley was the best
Jellyfish
There are mother / baby sessions at King Edwards - near Hallamshire Hospital. I don't know if they are instructed or if it is just time specifically allocated to mothers and babes. I was chatting to someone at Heeley swimming pool a while ago who said that she prefers to take her baby to King Edwards because they always make sure the water is nice and warm. NatalieSheff
can you take baby swimming without it being a lesson? like with his float for just playing in water? or will he gets squished with big kids?
cosywolf
can you take baby swimming without it being a lesson? like with his float for just playing in water? or will he gets squished with big kids? I believe they specifically heat the Heeley pool more than usual for baby sessions. Otherwise, you can probably attend 'free' sessions, not sure. To be honest, if cosycub is having an off day, or just wants to play, we don't join in, or we just do the bits he fancies and let him float about. No-one's going to yell at you for not taking part in the 'lessons', it's not that structured and serious, just a helpful extra. Otherwise, the swimming sessions for babies at Norton Tennis and Leisure pool are unstructured (i.e. no coach). I just found it a bit colder (the water and air) and less friendly, but I do know people who go there and adore it. So Mondays Heeleys Aquababes, anyone? Some of you have said you go, but not what days...am I sharing the pool with other forummers without even knowing it?
