Can anyone advise me what Shareaza and Azerus are like please?

 

My mate at work swears by them both, he has downloaded movies, music, applications and games from them?

 

He says it's good but I would prefer some more opinions, cheers in advance.

Azereus is good, but I dont know the technical or legal side of it.

if anyone does know it would be intersting to find out.

ANY copyrighted material that you download for free, is illegal if you don't already own it. Doesn't matter whether you use limewire, bearshare, uTorrent, or make a tape-to-tape recording in 1980s style. If you don't own an original, you are not legally entitled to a copy.

 

Not quite true - it's any copyright material that hasn't been explicitly placed in the public domain or made available for download free of charge by the artist or that isn't covered by 'Creative Commons' schemes such as 'copyleft' that you can't copy.

 

However, the vast majority of commercial material doesn't fall in to this category.

 

The legalities don't depend upon the technology; any copying of copyrighted material for which you haven't either paid for a license, gotten the explicit permission of the copyright holder or both is an offence.

 

The technology is irrelevant - all that matters is that you're creating an unauthorised copy of the material.

my indepth knowledge of IT is minimal, but I think it somehow searches around other computers throughout the internet, dipping into them when they are on line.

It then copies a piece of the program if available.

It is explained on the Azereus site I think.
