Why would you say that?

Because many people will remember a time when big brother wasn't watching and feel that the intervention of cctv etc was as big an issue as ID cards will be in the next 10 years.

I thought if you were older you may be of a different mindset regarding invasion of your privacy, although sounds like I may have assumed wrong!!

Thought it might have been my juvenile postings. Have another guess. CCTV is an intervention but in general the evidence of a crime being committed from that is more substantive.

Isn't that the case with every change the Govt make? so how long after the introduction of compulsory fingerprint id's do you think you'll cave in Cyclone?

I'm not sure I follow. I certainly didn't 'cave in' on later drinking laws if that's the analogy you're drawing. I was in support of them all along.

If fingerprinting and dna records become compulsory I'll be emigrating to canada or new zealand.

not to mention that cctv evidence is only kept for a certain length of time and the city centre style of cctv can't be used to identify you, only to track your movements once there's some reason to focus on you.

Or coat em in PVA before you go out :P

using pva/gelatine/silicone and standard circuit board hobbyist materials, you can convincingly spoof fingerprint recognition devices.

Making fake fingerprints (like the ones Bond uses in "Diamonds are forever") is relatively easy. It also helps (so I am told) if you rub your own prints off first (stroke a brown envelope a few thousand times with your fingers - makes everything very tricky to hold, especially wet pint glasses)

I have come into this post very late! Ignoring all the discussions about civil liberties and governments storing information I would like to say one thing regarding the fingerprinting on the door policy. I have heard about this system before in New Zealand from a friend of mine who lives down under. She states that all Men have their name and fingerprints taken, not sure if it's when they enter the club or when with a Women. This is to combat the number of "Date Rape" case of Men drugging Women
