Isn't that just what pubwatch is supposed to do?

I suppose if it makes sure they can't get in then that might be good - but doesn't stop the 'troublemakers' being in the city centre, and I'm concerned about the increase in domestic violence seen in Yeovil!

I suppose, overall, it would probably reduce violence in and around licensed premises, but may displace it to other areas instead.

Well it doesn't quite come to Sheffield yet but it is in line for a trial along with other cities in the country.

Ful story here.

The government is is funding the roll out of fingerprint security at the doors of pubs and clubs in major English cities.

Funding is being offered to councils that want to have their pubs keep a regional black list of known trouble makers. The fingerprint network installed in February by South Somerset District Council in Yeovil drinking holesy is being used as the show case.

"The Home Office have looked at our system and are looking at trials in other towns including Coventry, Hull & Sheffield," said Julia Bradburn, principal licensing manager at South Somerset District Council.

What are your thoughts?

Is it a good idea or a bad idea?

As an ex door supervisor I would argue that this is a great idea as far as public safety is concerned. Obviously it breaching personal information and will probably increase Q time at busy night spots but I'd say it's a small price to pay for knowing that KNOWN trouble makers are kept out of the venue you're frequenting.

All well and good if you could guarantee everybody marked as 'known' was done for the right reasons. And anybody marked down as such would presumably have already served some kind of punishment anyway? Or is it one strike and you're out for good?

Ladies and gentlemen your civil liberties have left the building...

All part of the governments master plan to get everyones finger print in a database which they'll then quietly hand over to the police.

Always the cynic cylone.

The way I see if I do nothing wrong then I wont have anything to fear by having them fingerprint me on my way in to the venue.

If I have done nothing wrong then I wont be barred from said venues.

Even if the information is passed on the police.. I haven't done anything wrong so I'm not worried about any possible outcome.

I can only see this coming in as a good thing.

I get fingerprinted everytime I visit the US and I'm not worried because I don't do anything I shouldn't be doing. Therefore... no worries.
