Pet proofing your home or car

What equipment do you have in your home/car that you wouldn't have if you didn't have a pet?

Apart from the obvious dog cage (one in the car, and a bigger one in the house) and the obligatory throw on the sofa :suspect: , we also have a tough rubber boot mat by cannon, and a seat cover which completes the boot cover-up, cotton doormats inside the house to catch dirty pawprints when somebody leaps over the outide mat with wet paws, and a windowledge we've fitted over the existing one which is wide enough to stop somebody from sliding off it with his wide behind :D

If you've found any bargains fitting into this category, let us know ;)

Hmm... we have a new car, a new garden with walls, luckily the flagstone floor in the kitchen means dogs can be cleaned off before going near carpet, food bowl stands, toy boxes, the cupboard under the stairs has become the dogs, 3 beds (one that they share).

We had blackout curtains fitted because Raymond Greyhound used to cry as soon as it got light. We had a porch built onto the front of the house so that there were two doors between him and the open plan front garden. There are throws on the three-piece suite and a great mound of dog towels in the hallway.

I used to have baby gates on the kitchen door and at the bottom of the stairs, it was a little embarrasing having to explain that no I didn't have a baby, I had a dog  he's trained now and they have gone thankfully.

Other than that it is just his big bed, and falling over all his toys/chews.

Well I have a wooden box under the sofa to stop Bobby going under there and deciding its the best place in the world to set up home.

I also have tonnes of cardboard, a ripped up Argos, a rug for him to run around on (he's high maintenence and won't walk on the wooden floors) obviously a cage (which he NEVER goes in, except to go to the loo), a gate type thing which stops him escaping from my room, a lock on the outside of my door so I can lock him in when I go out... the list goes on.

We still have a couple of dog gates on as not all our guests like being greeted by our pack of sibes. we have given up carpet for wooden floors (real wood, not that horrid laminate stuff). kitchen units are PVC, not wood, dead easy to wipe clean. We have throws on the sofas and our rear garden is bordered by electified mesh fence (low voltage) as the only thing gauranteed to keep huskies in.

  • 3 years later...

We've also taken to putting a babygate across the patio doors so we can get fresh air in, but the hairy person doesn't get to eat grass and get up to no good! (TKMaxx bargain)

I've found a bargain website for door knobs if anybody needs to change all the handles for something dogs and cats can't open! They're about half the price of B&Q sets
