I am puzzled as to why there has never been(as far as i know)a memorial,or some thing to remember this son of Sheffield by.He was born of Sheffield parents, in 1904 . His father was a file cutter, , he first lived inLonsdale road, at the time of his birth,,then the family moved to Bowness road, then to Walkley lane, and then to Lennox road. After a few years of playing the piano in local cinemas for silent films he finally got the post ,as many people know as the resident organist in Blackpool tower .He was to be there for forty years,in that time he entertained literally millions of people. at the might WurliTzer .He was in the true sense a legend in his own lifetime, and throughout his career,he was always the same type of person as he always was , with no "edge" at all.As most of the older folks will remember,he was given the name of" Mr Blackpool".He was a household name right through the 30s/40s/50s /60s,up to 1970,he passed away in 1975,may God rest his soul.

Now there's a name from my childhood! My parents were great radio fans - we had a TV but for many years my parents preferred the radio.

I remember Reginald Dixon on the radio occasionally, but didn't realise that he was a Sheffielder!

I also never knew he was from Sheffield.Always remember the announcement",and now we have Reginald Dixon on the organ." Think he deserves some kind of award.

He played the piano for the silent films at Ecclesfield Cinema House. His in-laws lived in Ecclesfield and were called Fiddler. I was a postman, delivering in Ecclesfield. On the morning of Mrs Fidler's funeral I went to the house with a great deal of mail. Reginald Dixon must have seen me approaching as he opened the front door and took the mail from me.

I remember Reginald Dixon on the Blackpool Tower organ playing: "Oh I do like to be beside the seaside." I knew he was from Sheffield but you have to be of an age-challenged generation to remember him. Am I right in thinking Jimmy Jewel was also from Sheffield? I think people like these should be remembered in some way.

I think he may have been as he seemed to have a Sheffield accent when they were performing their act. I would like to see old t.v. footage of him and Ben Warris as they were very good werent they ?
