princessL83
I had a friend who was on accutance his skin got really dry for a couple of weeks especially his lips which cracked terribly. He said he felt down somedays whilst taking the tablets (which is a possible side affect) but in all honesty his skin imporved considerably with the treatment. You also have to drink plenty of water Make sure that if you want it you demand it because I know they will only pescribe it as a last resort. Good Luck xx

Like you it bothered him a lot as he was a salesperson, and had to meet lots of people. It eventually cleared up on its own,but he must have had it for over two years. Ive not heard of accutane,is it a new drug.?

scarby
Whatever you decide, just leave it 'til after Halloween, then at least you'll pocket some dough to pay for the treatment!

LisaO
I was on (Ro)Accutane for 7 or 8 months in 2003, which from what I've heard is about the longest anyone ever spends on this drug because it's so strong. Long story short, it worked wonders for me and I had very minimal side effects. I was lucky to have a dermatologist (GPs can't prescribe it, they can only refer you on) who had previously been a psychologist so she kept a close eye on the physical as well as emotional side effects. As has been mentioned I got VERY dry skin and lips (lip balm companies must have had record profits that year!) and am still feeling the impact of this, i.e. whereas before my skin was too oily for moisturiser, now I need to apply moisturiser quite often on both face and body. uk student, I suggest you go back to your GP and ask for a referral to a dermatologist. The dermo will be able to give you a lot more information and really they are the only ones who can assess your individual case and advise you. I have nothing bad to say about it but on the other hand I have known people who hated being on it, so my word is definitely not gospel! To warn you, some dermos hate the stuff and refuse to prescribe it, but others know how debilitating acne is and may prescribe it under close supervision (I'm talking monthly appointments, blood tests, etc). As someone who's been there, keep strong and good luck!! x
Harleykim
I was also on (Ro)accutane for a few months a few years ago. It was awful I had the side affects pretty bad. I got very depressed, and my lips were so dry that someday I couldn't even talk, I had like 2 massive coldsores at the sides of my mouth, and just couldn't open my mouth to speak or eat! My skin was ever so dry, I hated it. It worked for the acne, but a year or so later the acne just came back. Wasn't worth it in my opnion.
beckelina
I was on Roaccutane for six months when I was 22. I had suffered from severe acne for nearly 10 years before that and tried all sorts of treatments form my GP (topical creams, antibac washes, about 4 different antiobiotics, the pill) and then homeopathic remedies, none of which worked. I put off trying roaccutane during uni, partly because I thought nothing would ever work, and partly because it recommends staying out of broad sunlight (I was studying in Canada) and avoiding physical contact activity (I play rugby). I went on it after uni when my skin was still really bad, and it worked like a miracle. I had skin irritations (dry cracked lips, sore arms) and got upset about that, but 6 years later my skin is virtually spot-free. i still have the scars, and will never have a great complexion, but it changed my life! My boyfriend at the time was mega supportive of my sensitivity and skin pain caused by the drugs - if you have someone who will support you it will make all the difference! So if you are desparate - try it. It is tough, but it was the only thing that worked for me.
