littled
I've just started house hunting on my own as a first time buyer and have a budget of around £80,000! not much i know! I've always lived in south sheffield woodseats and netheredge etc. and definitley can't afford anything around here. I just wanted some advice on the best and safest (if any!) areas I can live in as I will be a young woman living alone. I've looked at places in NorfolkPark, Arbourthorne, Longley, Low Edges, Hemsworth and Shiregreen so far.....I quite like the look of Shiregreen but wondered if some of you more knowledgable sheffielders could help me out??? thanks a lot, Dix
yan
you dont say how many bedrooms you require. It could be that you can afford a small flat in a nicer area of sheffield rather than going for a larger house but in a not so nice area.
nick2
Meersbrook & Heeley are still fairly cheap, but I doubt you'll get a house for £80K unless it's a terraced house thats a bit run-down.
beanpod
I've just spotted this: http://212.50.188.106/cgi-win/vebra.cgi?details1?src=vebra&PropertyCode=1086013/RUSHD/59078/13 I know it's a bit out of your budget, but it seems a bit steep for a one bed flat (or maybe I'm just tight!) so it might be worth putting in a lower offer. And Meersbrook is a great place to live! Good luck!
Mishmash
I recently bought a small 2 bed house in Woodseats for a little over £80K...it can be done if you're prepared to put in some work. I'm a single girl living alone and I am finding that I'm surprisingly good at DIY!
littled
Hiya everyone thanks a lot for your advice, i'm only looking for a small place 1-2 bedrooms. suppose i'd much rather a little house than a flat as they do seem to be quite a rip off!! i lived in woodseats for about 2 years and really liked it...haven't seen anything in my price range yet though.....Di x

Theres no way you could get a house for around 80k in S8 now. ive been looking for 5 months now and we had a budget of 90k!
amron
Why dont you buy with someone in a similar position with a similar budget. You can always seperate the house of into two accomodations. We have done that and it works very well.

You have to be prepared to negotiate hard, not be scared of losing the property - estate agents can smell fear...and be just plain lucky! Look at auction sales, bank repossessions and sales through mortgage lenders, and private sales...all cheaper options.
Yellowrose
You might manage a 2 bed terrace in Beighton for that or just a little more. A very nice area without crime but with good amenities. Ive just left there and miss it like anything.
