floyd77
Hello all, need some (alot) of help. If I have two columns - one with names of players, one with their ratings - is there a formula i could use to split those names into two teams, with equal average ratings? Or do I need something more advanced than excel? Cheers.
xircon
Permutations and combinations are possibly endless, so exel aint good enough, unless you do it manually
Strix
It's probably doable, but you need to write the formula how about starting by suming the scores and dividing by 2 (to find 1 team score). then you'll need a 'less than' (<) formula
cgksheff
I would just sort them into order of rating and then put the 1st, 3rd, 5th etc. into Team A and the 2nd, 4th, 6th etc. into Team B. You don't say, but do both teams have to have the same number of players? If so, you are not guaranteed to have exactly the same average, but it should be the closest. A slight refinement would be to put 1st & 4th, 5th & 8th etc into Team A and 2nd & 3rd, 6th & 7th etc into Team B. However it is possible to come up with the exact solution you want using the solver add-in; have you got it installed? It's not a formula and you'd have to create other columns but I'll tell you how if you want.
