Interview Friday! Any tips?

Recommended Posts

Well Done! Thast half the battle out the way!

The most important thing to do is to prepare.

Research the company, find out how big they are, have they won any awards that kind of thing, always looks really good if you can drop facts and figures like that into the interview (e.g. oh yes, I was really impressed when I saw you'd won X award for good service etc).

Consioder what they are likely to ask about. You should have received a list of essential and desireable traits/skills for the post. Consider how you can best show you meet those requirements. It is likely that they will ask questions relating to them, adn how you have demonstrated them in your previous experience.

If you can't think of a way you have done it in work experience, but have done something good in school, college uni etc then use that.

Above all, if you haven't done something or been in a certain situation before then DON'T LIE! They will be able to tell. Instead just say 'well, I haven't been in that situation before but if I were I would....

Also, go in and try to be yourself, they will want to see the personality of the person they may be recruiting, so let it show, just maintain a level of proffessionalism.

Another thing you could do is see if you can arrange to go in and have a tour, see the place before the interview, have a chat with existing receptionists, get a feel for the place. This shows intertest and dedication on your part, and gets your name and face known before the interview.

And go in with a positive mental attitude. The job is yours for the taking, you just have to convince them of that. remember you are good enough for the job or you wouldn't be being interviewed.

Good Luck!!

yea, my aim is to get up to managment level in a few years time.

I have no experience of this area of work, although in the vacancy it says, that full training is given to teh right person for the job, so experience is not essential!

Sounds like you are in the right frame of mind to go in and Wow them!

Good Luck!

Edit: Oh yes, thought of another tip, try to think of good questions to ask, they may answer them in the interview anyway, but always looks good if you have questions about the job.

You could go for things about training and development, mention that you are keen to pursue a career in the hotel industry, and so would be keen to undertake any useful training, get as wide a range of experience from them as possible, what sort of things might they be able to offer, and what career progression could you acheive with them. Shows that you have thought about a career with them, that you are going to be dedicated to the first job on the ladder cos you want to go higher, and gives the impression that you are in the position to choose the best enmployer for you, not just looking to take the first job that comes along.
