lovabulrogue
I use handshakes on meeting people for the first time, if I am familiar with someone then not that often. I recently moved an an elderly fella up the street introduced himself and stuck out his left hand, it just wasn't right. Then again he is 82 so perhaps his right hand was crippled with arthritis ! What is it with people who stick out their left, is it deemed dishonest ?
marmite
i dont no if this has been mentioned, but i HATE it when people want to handshake they almost give you a high five by slapping their palm into yours. But yeah its mostly been mentioned. Firm, dont hold on for too long = pervy, eye contact aswell.
Jabberwocky
Its odd but for the 41 years that i lived in sheffield I never shook hands, yet here in leicestershire they do it all the time. Even kissing on the cheek is frequent here between members of the opposite sex. Its bloody awkward for me because men stick out their hands and i just stare at it. Women lean forwards for a peck on the cheek and as they lean forwards i either lean back or go for a grope.

GazB
I shake most of my friends hands when I see them. I hate weak handshakes, I think they should be just firm. If someone tries to crush my hand I take offence to it, it's like them trying to show they're stronger than me.
LordChaverly
One thing which puts me of handshakes is my observation of men's toilet habits in the 'gents'. A not insignificant proportion don't wash their hands after urinating. I don't want to shake a guy's hand if its just been touching his willie (I always wash afterwards, so anyone who meets me is reassured on this point).
