Rich
Depends how fancy you want to make your site, if it's very basic, just write all your HTML by hand in Notepad, which comes free with all versions of Windows. If you're after something more advanced, you need something like Dreamweaver, but beware it weighs in at 300 Quid from Dreamweaver web site
Skatiechik
If you're after something more advanced, you need something like Dreamweaver, but beware it weighs in at 300 Quid from Macromedia web site There is no reason why you can't write everything in notepad, regardless of how complex it is. alchresearch
Before you splash out on the software, how are your web skills? When I see local businesses start up and they stick a poorly designed flyer through my door (with spelling errors and such), there's no way they'll get my business. The same applies to the web. If your site looks very amateurish it may scare of potential customers. Invest that money on software in one of the web professionals on this forum instead. Guest
The same applies to the web. If your site looks very amateurish it may scare of potential customers. Invest that money on software in one of the web professionals on this forum instead. I know some of the web types on here are excellent, but I'm afraid that doesn't apply as a general rule unfortunately. The number of so called web pros that design archaic, stuck in the 90s, table-based, inaccessible websites is far too high and they should all be forced to either stop claiming they can build websites or just stop building them altogether until they can do it properly ...runs off and remembers that his 3 year old site still runs in tables..ahem, oops....no time to redo for me tho

Ghozer
free lance Web Designers are often a good choice ,they will be cheaper than paying out for a program, and much more professional than doing it yourself, If oyu go via a design company, you can expect to pay 200+ but free lance vary from £50 to £200+ depending on site size and content... type out a brief outline of your site, a number of pages etc, and if you want customer logins and profiles, or just simple information (thats easy to update etc) and i can give you an estimate of what i'd charge... Stuff
If you want it to look professional, and you have no web background I really wouldn't do it yourself. Most home-made business websites are crap. Anyone can buy a copy of Dreamweaver and call themselves a "web designer", but there's a reason that some of us are paid to do it! micksheff
I would suggest that you use a ready made template and then cusomise it to you needs, or have someone customise it. There are plenty of free ones here http://www.oswd.org/
