alchemist
I am just curious concerning how veiled women go on with the photos for passports and the future ID cards. Obviously they cant have the veil on on the pictures because they cannot be identified. How is this problem solved in the Islamic countries? How about driving licences the photocard would be a bit pointless, do they wear the veil when taking a driving test if so how do they prove who they are? Heyesey
I am just curious concerning how veiled women go on with the photos for passports and the future ID cards. Obviously they cant have the veil on on the pictures because they cannot be identified. How is this problem solved in the Islamic countries? As a general rule, in countries where the wearing of a veil is required - either by law or by established custom - women are property, not people, and don't HAVE passports, ID cards, driving licences, or any other such things. And before everyone goes up in arms about how terrible this is, bear in mind that it's less than 125 years since it was exactly the same position in England. alchemist
Hmm, so does this mean they cannot drive or leave the country? How does this equate to the ones that DO leave the country, surely they dont leave as frieght!! There are also other security issues that could be questioned surrounding the wearing of the veil etc
savbaby
they have passports and at airports the women are taking to the side by a female member of staf and they lift the veil to prove thier identity, i think the same would go for driving tests and the like. if there was no female to id them then they would have to accept that the man has to do it. alchemist
fair enough, so i assume that the picture on the card is of them unveiled? I know, it would have to be!!
little malc
Just for curiosity, if the face is always covered, how do they find a partner, it's a bit difficult falling for a woman you can't see.

artisan
Just for curiosity, if the face is always covered, how do they find a partner, it's a bit difficult falling for a woman you can't see. It is arranged via the fathers of both families. The first time they see each other is when a deal has been struck. They are then introduced to each other, under strict supervision. After the 'marriage', the girl is never allowed contact with her family again, except under extenuating circumstances.
Kthebean
'in the Islamic countries' is like saying 'in English speaking countries' - there are so many Islamic countries each has a different culture and traditions.
