Widow of school shooter thanks community.

Recommended Posts

The widow of the shooter in the Amish school shootings case has thanked the community for their 'forgiveness, grace and mercy' in the aftermath of this tragedy.

How lovely to see such an incredible example of forgiveness and compassion in a world so quick to condemn and call for retribution.

Yes, I agree with you here. Its touched me since first reading it.My sister lives in the States, and says the Amish community are lovely, qiuet, people who keep themselves to themselves. They are deeply religious, and crime was unknown to them before this incident.I believe that this is what religion should be about, forgiveness.I mean could you forgive,if it was your child ? Its made me think a lot, this story.

Thanks for that Pattricia, sadly, I fear this post will not attract a deal of comment as it doesn't leave much room for people to shout about revenge and hatred.

The way the Amish people live has always fascinated me, their simple way of life without modern technology, cars, violence. These people must be incredibly strong to be so forgiving, even tho the widow of the shooter was not to blame, im sure it would be easy to point the finger of blame towards her and the family.

It has absolutly astonished me.

It is from actions such as this, that we can see how Christianity conquered the world.

We can see how violent murderous tyrants, must have been given pause to reflect on their ways by people such as this.

Not wishing to sound too idealistic, but could this be a sign of things to come?

I agree; it's certainly thought-provoking. Although I'd grapple with the reasons, the excuses, the warped justification and try to reach some level of understanding of the events, I really don't think I could forgive someone who murdered a member of my family.

Difficult indeed, although the case is more about the kindness and forgiveness extended by the community to the widow of the killer. None the less remarkable for that though.

I dont see how I can make it more clear without descending into sentimentality.

They seem to be the most forgiving people that I have ever heard about.

if the early christians were like this, then no wonder the educated men of Rome were made to feel their faults, and eventually changed.

Let us hope that from this tiny acorn of goodness, that a mighty oak of international brotherhood can grow.

It has happened before, in the face of evil, and can happen again.

Thanks for clarifying! I agree with your sentiments - such a shame there aren't more people prepared to forgive in the world.
