Guest
Of course not, and everyone's free to donate to whomever they decide. I just find it difficult to understand why somebody would give money to save cats and not to save humans. Perhaps they do both. Maybe they realise that - as you say - as everyone is free to donate to the charity of their choice, there will be thousands of other folk donating to the various charities which benefit humans. Or maybe they're misanthropists.
randolf
So why do you think humans are more important than cats? Did cats fly planes into the World Trade Center? Did cats illegally invade Iraq and Afghanistan? Humans are the only species with an infinite capacity to destroy their planet. Cats don't. You're obviously one of the confused and little bit nuts people I was talking about. How can a starving or abused child fly a plane into a building? How can a penniless refugee invade another country? I'm not asking you to donate money to the Republican or the Labour party! Why do I think humans are more important than cats? Because they have an infinitely greater capacity to feel - pain, hunger, suffering, joy and love. How can a cat lead a non-violent peace march across India? How can a cat lead an anti-apartheid movement to end decades of oppression? How can a cat discover penicillin? How can a cat paint the Mona Lisa? Of course humans are more important than animals. Humans fail when they put a lower value on other human's lives than they would on their own. Just like you have just done. Do you consider yourself to be less important than a cat? If so, you're either an Ancient Egyptian or you've got serious self-esteem issues.

kittenta
They are talking about a box for cat food, not sure i've seen any boxes in which to put human food for the starving??? I didn't even notice money being mentioned (ok i know it costs to buy cat food) but hey i'm sure people donate more than 47p to human charities
randolf
They aren't. true enough, I apologise. http://www.charitiesdirect.com/CharitiesTop500UK.asp It would seem that I was wrong on that one. This happens very occasionally, by my calculations I'm due another error in 2025.

beckelina
Of course not, and everyone's free to donate to whomever they decide. I just find it difficult to understand why somebody would give money to save cats and not to save humans. Perhaps because humans usually have the capacity to help themselves and the 'system' to support them, and cats (unless they are allowed to live feral which has its own welfare implications) are generally dependent on human generosity to ensure a fair quality of life. irenewilde
How many of those people who give their hard-earned cash to saving poor little cats also donate money to help starving or abused children, victims of torture or homeless, destitute refugee humans? I find it ridiculous that people donate to animal charities; there are humans out there suffering and their plight is often totally ignored. Do you value the life of a cat above the life of a human? If so, then I think you are extremely confused and probably a little bit nuts. You didn't used to be F Sidebottom on here did you? I once received a similar, ill-conceived rant from someone with that name. People are free to do what they like with their money and it is actually possible to donate to more than charity. There are lots of people and animals out there who need our help. So why don't you mind your own business and let us choose where we donate? samsmum
Many people are more than happy to buy an extra tin of cat food to help us feed the cats that depend on us for food. We now have a custom-made box for tins and other food in the Handsworth branch of Asda. I've put a picture on our website: http://www.catsprotectionshop.com was it missing one evening last week? i took my tin home with me cos there wasnt a collection container to put it in. It ended up in one morrisons at ecclesfield ... not sure if that was a cats protection one though, sorry! (my OH was dead amused ... we have 3 kids, no cats ... )
