fuddyduddy
When booting up my computer I dropped a book on to the keyboard ,it seems to have corrupted the system as I get the blue screen of death on saying ,STOP 0x0000007e (0xc0000005,0xf1f214do,oxf7903fec,0xf7903cec),obviously these are file references but they mean nothing to me. The best I can get on is safe mode and I have tried eliminating the drivers but that doesn't work.My question is ,if I reinstalled the Win XP disc over the corrupted version without formatting the hard disc would I lose my personal data e.g. photos,mp3's,Emails Thanks
esme
is there anything after te numbers in brackets ? the error is indicating a hardware failure but there should be a file name immediately after the bracket to identify it
esme
no you wouldn't lose your data files if you installed over the top without formatting but you would lose all your installed software and as the error is indicating a hardware problem it's possible a reinstall wouldn't solve the problem
Livewirex
If you dropped a book on the keyboard i should look for sticking keys on it before you do anything too major, you could even try a friends or a new keyboard as they are quite cheap. fnkysknky
Try disconnecting the keyboard and booting to see if it's a keyboard issue.
xircon
Buy a new keyboard around £5, this should fixit Else roll back to a system restore point if it isn't the keyboard.

biggie
Try booting to safe mode and seeing if it loads up. If that fails then boot to the Command prompt and check your disc for errors using 'CHKDSK'. You can get to this menu by pressing F8 when your computer is loading up.
