Local Pharmacist refuses supply of "Morning After Pill on "Religious Grounds"

Recommended Posts

As for the claim regarding "a nearby pharmacy" to the one in question, I think the nearest is 4 miles away......owned by the same Group,

Although there will be the odd exception, the chances are that someone who requires the morning after pill has a slapdash method of contrception and a poor regard for he own self worth. If this is the case then going another 4 miles might seem a big deal to her. There will be a minority who has had an "accident" with their husband and then may have medical reasons for not leaving it to God to sort out, those people won't care about travelling 4, 40 or even 400 miles to get it sorted as it will be such an unusual and serious event.

It is a nonesense to suggest that anyone working in a field of the NHS should be prepared to carry out all treatments, or dispense all drugs, available on the NHS. I can't see why someone shouldn't be a good obstetrician but refuse to carry out abortions, the person wanting one just needs to go somewhere else. There must also be plastic surgeons who are happy to fix someone with burns but not happy to make someone's nose a bit smaller.

I share Lord Chavs concerns that we seem to have a number of such incidents, and think they are probably a mixture of press hysteria and the odd person trying to make a political point, both the person who does the refusing, and the person reporting them.

I would like to see more refusals on moral, social and religious grounds. For example, you could be employed to sell alcohol, and so must be prepared to do that, but should be able to refuse to sell it under certain circumstances without comeback, perhaps when the customer is drunk. Your employer could argue that you should never turn away a sale but you should be able to on moral grounds. You might also work for a compny which sells to little old ladies. You are n employee so you should try to sell your product but should refuse to do so when it clearly isn't the right product for the customer.

i personally think this is rediculous.

this man was a pharmasist and his job role requires him to dispense drugs available on nhs if he cannot fulfill his job role then surely this position should be given to someone who will!!

i am a cleaner and being female and married i should not be putting myself in a position of possibly seeing another mans penis other than my hubbies...but my job requires me to clean toilets and this includes cleaning the gents there is a small possibility of catching a man with his bits out.

freyas_mum, let me get this right - did you catch a pharmacist with his bits out? And did he offer to dispense anything? :hihi:

But in this case, where does the 'isn't the right product for the customer' come into it.

I would equate this case with a Catholic refusing to sell meat-based products to Mc Donalds customers on a friday, simply because she, herself, isn't supposed to eat meat on that day.

Nobody was asking the pharmacist, nor any of his family, to take the pill. He was imposing his religious beliefs on someone else. Which is wrong!
