never wrong
It seems that public opinion may force mclaren to recall beckham to the england squad. If this happens should mclaren keep his job. after all the first thing mclaren did on taking the job was to sack beckham.
JoeP
This would be a dangerous precedent. Beckham is a good player, but England's problems are more to do with the years of the 'cult of the eprsonality' established around Beckham and other high profile players. I've always said that the problem with England players - irrespective of the manager - is that they don't seem hungry enough and fit enough. Beckham is not a universal panacea, neither is Owen or Rooney. On their day they can do marvellous things, but the requirement is for consistency and depth in quality players, who are disciplined enough to get fit, stay fit and work hard. It's easy for me to say - I have the body of Homer Simpson - but I don't get paid vast sums of money to get fit and stay fit and play professional football. Heyesey
Will Beckham be in the side in 2010? No. Therefore, it's a waste of time him being in the side now.

Good point - as I said, I'm not an expert in these matters! Looking at 'long game' for Maclaren, is it likely England WON'T get to the European Cup based on their current performance? If so, might it be worthwhile him trying a few things out now and carrying on breaking out of the 'Sven' paradigm whilst he has the opportunity? barnie41
If Frank Lampard can believe that England played well the other night, there is hope for anything happening. I never thought I'd say it, but I am totally fed up of watching that overpaid set of self indulgent idiots that has the audacity to wear the England shirt. I predict that England won't get to the next Euro's, and Mclaren won't last a year - Beckham or not.

Heyesey
i think old stevey should eat humble pie n get becks bak.someone who can take corners n free kicks You'd rather be trying to find a replacement for him with, maybe, only six months, or a year to go before the next World Cup? Or now, when we've got four whole years to sort it out?
SpeedwayDan
popular belief that becks should be brought back ? are you sure ? I've yet to hear anybody say he should be brought back, most people agreed with him being dropped, as he wasn't performing. Plus its given gerrard a better role in the squad now, he's been playing much better for it too. As for the last two games, well we've all seen it time and time again, our players seem to believe their own hype too much, oh these two games will be easy, the next thing they know they're getting played off the pitch
