Public Transport in Sheffield

Recommended Posts

Closest Public Airport to Sheffield's in Doncaster, Sheffield does have an Airport but it doesn't service the public any more.

Sheffield is very much a public airport which is fully open to the public. It doesn't have any scheduled flights which isn't the same thing at all.

From Ireland the best airport is more likely to be East Mids.

Hi Susie,

Sheffield has an international airport (the embarrisingly titled Robin Hood, Doncaster Sheffield) but it is some way out from the city centre. Your student will need to get a bus or taxis to Doncaster Interchange and then take a 30 minutes train ride in to central Sheffield. From Midland Station, the bus interchange is a couple of minutes walk and is well signposted. Buses to Gleadless should take about 15 minutes in light traffic, 30 minutes otherwise.

As far as I know, Thomsonfly and Ryanair both fly into Robin Hood so there is flexibility in terms of arrival times.

If they are flying in on a light aircraft they will be heading to city airport from which they can get a taxi to Gleadless for about £12.

And finally, as you may have already noticed, please ignore the negativity of some of the locals. We're not all like that.

Ta,

Matt

Sheffield used to have a good service, in the 70's and 80's. It all went down hill from the 90's. Buses, taxis, and trams are just over priced. Its cheaper to travel in London, thats how embarrasing it has become.

:help: I am coming up to teach sewing next week & I have a student wanting to get to Gleadless Valley by public transport. She is flying in from Ireland, so does anyone know the answer please. I take it you have an airport ! Cheers. :help:

We really need to know the airport she's booked to fly into. Robin Hood or Manchester ?

That's not entirely true. First Buses are expensive but there are several other much cheaper services.
