Romario
Hi I want a freeview box, are they all the same as far as the channels you can get & are they as simple to install, via a scart into the back of the telly. Do they need an extra aerial etc & where is the best place to get one & what am i looking at paying? Any help appreciated Rom
mr chris
I got mine from Argos - down to £25 from £40! It's a Wharfdale, can't remember the model. Things to consider are, do you want top-up TV (answer, no I don't want to pay £8 a month for UK Gold and old episodes of eastenders and neighbours), do you want a 7 day programme guide and the number of scart sockets. Mine has two, so I can connect it to a video as well as the TV (as my TV only has one scart, as did my video... before i died. Now I have a DVD-HDD thingy). If you live in a decent signal area, then a decent portable aerial should do the trick. Mine's about 6 years old, but I get a damned good signal. esme
they are all pretty the same as far as channels go with the exception that some of the cheaper models don't have the TopUpTv expansion cartridge slot and so can't receive TopUpTv pay for view stuff scart connection seems to be the normal method to connect to your TV it is recommended that you have your aerial checked to make sure it's OK for digital reception and you may need an upgrade, however I just plugged mine in and to the same aerial I used for analogue TV and it was fine I've got a Humax Twin tuner PVR 9200T on the main telly and a Phillips DTR100/05 for the spare set upstairs both get the same channels quite happily Can't advise you on price tho it's been a while since I got 'em

Any help appreciated Rom Yes they all get the same amount of channels, about 82 i think in total, these are made up of tv,radio, music and shopping channels, most have 2 scart sockets and loopthrough, one scart output to tv,the other output to a recorder (video/dvd),they do need a bigger aerial and best quality coax cable as you cant afford to lose any signal with digital or the picture breaks up in to squares (pixels).i have had a few boxes and paid around £80,i currently have one made by Sagem and it works ok,it cost £34.99 from Comet but i suppose someone wiil know where to get cheaper ones. Romario
There's that shop on Arundel gate, but i think they are a bit dodgy, i guess i'll need to check my aerial out & hopefully all will be cool! Rom
