Poly cystic ovary syndrome

Recommended Posts

i have pcos i got diagnosed at 15, i was under the hospital for 2years aboutit. I had irregular periods weight gain, infertitlity etc, all the symptoms, i first got taken into hospital with lower abdominal pain. They discharged me saying they couldnt do anything and it was a thing that i just had to put up with.

They operated on me, just for an investigation, and said that i had pcos, and when i got older if i decided i wanted children i had to let them know.

The pain calmed down but the period thing carried on, 2months ago, i got rushed into hospital with lower abdominal pain, i was prescribed very strong anti biotics, they didn't work, couple weeks later i was rushed in again, again they didn't do much. i still have the on going pain, the doctors before had tried me on a pill, but it didn't work. because i was releasing systs instead of eggs the pill couldn't control them, now i have been put on a pill that suits me, with the condition i have, last month it didn't work, i was on my period for 2weeks and came on before i finished the pack, i got another 4months to see if there is any differennce.

In 3years i have been rushed into hospital 5times, once by ambulance, and tehy say they cannot do anyhting about it?

My weight gain is still a problem, although i do also have a problem with my thyroid, (pcos can set this off) which causes me to put weight on for no reason.

Teh other thing with me is when they did teh laporoscopy, they find a shadow of something in the lining of my womb, they didin't say what it was (they were originally looking for endiodimeatriosis-however you spell it lol). I would like to get referred back to the hospital, to find out if there is any change with the shadow, how do they know it hasn't grown and turned into something serious?

I am hoping to get things my way soon just have to wait and see!#

The tablets i have been prescribed are menfenmic acid, this is supposed to control how much you bleed, although it doesn't suit me, it just eases the pain.

My heart goes out to your friend, i knwo what she is going through! :)

This is a very informative thread. Thank you for starting it. I don't think I have PCOS, but I shall look into this area too. :)

I too have irregular periods, and have weight gained up and down over the years. I'm not entirely sure if this is related. I was put on the pill, and regulated it for a period of time. When I was off the pill, my periods are irregular again. It's nothing that I gave deep thoughts about until this year.

I was abroad, and was living on a healthier diet, 3 meals a day, with fresh veg and meat etc. That really helped me. I wasn't even on the pill to regulate the periods.

I don't know whether for other girls, you will consider the diet option, but I wouldn't believe it unless I have experienced it. I do think that diet has a lot to do with regulating periods. I wouldn't have believed that a couple of years ago... but I really do now.

I'm not sure what treatment there are out there for PCOS, but I do know that sometimes articles in the "Healthy" magazine do a very good coverage on illnesses, and also provide alternative medicines or natural remedies. Maybe it's worth investigating in that area.
