pertfoxylush
You know when you're a kid and Xmas was magical and wonderous <sp?> and everything else? Well I always imagine Xmas, the lights, the atmosphere etc but it never seems to live up to my dreams about it. Maybe It's just a symptom of getting older? nick2
The whole thing is a pain in the arse, I'd rather go abroad to a country where they don't celebrate it for 2 weeks. It's the buying of pointless gifts just for the sake of it that gets me down.
taxman
I don't go on my works Christmas do because its overpriced cr.ap and I'm supposed to pretend that I'm bezzie mates with people whilst wearing a stupid hat followed by the obligatory "disco" where some sad throwback plays trash. I usually go off walking or birdwatching somewhere nice instead. Christmas itself is always a trial rather than a pleasure. There's nice food and drink but I don't enjoy it anymore really. Could fellow curmudgeons on SF organise an anti Christmas party perhaps?

Ok, I don't really hate it that much. I appreciate meeting up with friends and drinking for 2 weeks. Would be much better if it was just a normal holiday without the religious aspect though. yummyyumyum
i love xmas, it is what you make it!. the weeks building up to xmas i decorate the house. now my daughter is 4 she is able to make decorations so i cant wait!, we will have xmas carols playing while making a full day of decorating, another day is spent wrapping xmas pressies and writing cards etc. i love the whole build up...shopping with friends to buy pressies, the big xmas food/drink shopping, getting together with friends and family. i love xmas eve/day boxing day, and its even better now that my daughter is old enough to understand the fuss. it is an expensive time of year but i love to spoil friends/family and its the perfect opportunity! also im a real romantic and love the whole winter feel of being close to family and friends! I don't think there is a religious aspect anymore is there ? You certainly don't get a religious feeling in Meadowhall the week before Christmass. Some people might criticise the religious festivals of other faiths but as far as I know none of them involve buying presents for people because you feel guilty, eating and drinking until your sick, watching Only Fools And Horses on TV constantly for 2 weeks, and then spending until mid-April paying for it. Zebra
It had started to pale from 'fabulous' to 'not bad' by my early 20's. Now we've got twins almost a year old and I think this Christmas will be fantastic, so I can enjoy it properly again through them because I know it'll be magical for them. For me it isn't religious but it is a fantastic reason to see everyone, relax, spoil people and generally have a great time. I suppose it's all gone a bit 'disney' in a way, love the magic and the glitz about it but the original point is lost.
lizzmobile
*Puts pedant's hat on It might do if you spelled it properly And we do Christmas without a mote of religious element. S'easy really. And Christmas abroad is excellent. Did it back in 1997 in France. Went skiing to Les Deux Alpes. Low key, tasteful, classy and spot on
