Magilla
In my experience these "guilds" are a complete waste of time. When I bought my car the garage made a big deal of being part of a Motor Retailers Guild (or something along those lines). I decided to phone them to ask what their role is should there be any disputes over the car. Their role is "mediation" should there be any disagreements, but if push comes to shove, they are there to represent the retailer and NOT the customer. They will support the retailer financially in legal cases *against* you should any cases actually get to court. Don't be fooled into thinking they are there to offer the customer better service or some form of support/guarantee, that is not the case, they exist purely to defend and backup the retailers point of view. peterw
Very true — and some so-called Guilds charge a fortune just to join, and another fortune every year you remain a member. I had a look at what one offered, and while the ‘perks’ looked good — lower rates for vehicle hire et. — their fee was stiffer than stiff.
