pertfoxylush
If they were given a plastic-doll thing that cried and weed at set times. They'd have to learn how hard it can be to have a child, get up in the middle of the night for feeds and to change it without hurting its neck, etc etc. I'm not judging teenage mothers, I just wondered what people's opinions on this are. Guest
No, because many teenage pregnancies are a result of failure to use/failure of contraception. Surely the caring for a doll experience would only put off those who had planned to become pregnant, and who had not fully realised the responsibilities of being a parent? It might increase the abortion rate though, serving to put off those who might have otherwise chosen to go through with the pregnancy. EDIT: Would it make them think more seriously about contraception, though? I'm not too sure.

The thing that needs to happen for girls to stop becoming pregnant is. 1) stop having sex 2) all boys/lads/men to look like the chap in the photo (see link) http://members.aol.com/gooberhed6/images/mulletman.jpg

Lester_Bigot
Would you care to explain your post Lester? I think the PLastic Doll thing wouldn't work, because thats what it is, just a Plastic doll and not a human being The question by the poster was ' Do you think this would reduce pregnanceys' and I don't think it would, the way to stop teenage pregnancys is as follows 1) If they don't have sex (unprotected) they won't become pregnant. Quite simplistic 2) If all lads, looked like the bloke in the photo, its unlikely the girls would be too keen having sex. Unfortunatly some lads are good looking, 2 people get together and off they go.... teenage pregnancy. I do think that when talking about teens, people do concentrate on Sex, Underage Drinking, experimentation of drugs etc. Lets not forget its not all fun being a teenager, there is the rubbish side, things like Homework etc
pinklady
a neighbours daughter was given one of these by her school to look after for the weekend ... to her it was just a play thing that she wanted to dress trendy. To reduce unwanted pregnancies better education should be given, by simply telling teenages to abstain will have no effect what so ever. They should have teenage mums go into school and show the girls the mess stretch marks make, give talks about the realities of motherhood ... no sleep, no money, no social life, and 9 out of 10 times ... no daddy to share the load. Im sure this would be more effective than a doll. ________ Suzuki Apv Specifications

Maybe a little but its coming at the problem the wrong way though, scaring teenagers off sex just doesn’t work the desire to have it is just too strong. The only realistic solution is fully informing them how to have safe sex with unembarrassed comprehensive sex ed, along the lines of how they do things in much of continental Europe. Take Holland for example they have more and better sex ed, fewer teenage pregnancies and far fewer abortions, they’ve achieved that by informing not scaring people. KenH
Why do we want to stop teenage pregnancies? In general they fall into two types; those that get pregnant intentionally and those that don't. Those that get pregant deliberately are saying that they want to be mothers, which is their natural state, and yet we are saying they should be ashamed of themselves. One of our objections is that they don't have much money, but who said you had to be rich to have children. Another objection is that they won't work, but this means they spend time with their children instead. One of the most bizarre objections is that the new mother won't be able to do the sorts of things that other 17 year old do, presumably that would be hanging around on street corners smoking fags. I think we should support those young mothers who think being a mother is more important than anything else.
