upinwath
I am often with visitors to the UK and have found that the first thing to consider is the things you find usual are new to them. Most will never have seen a church or at least nothing like the ones we have here. Even a wander round the city centre may be of interest to many. I have some friends who come from villages surrounded by jungle. M&S is exotic to them the first time they see it. Having said that when I was in their village eating fresh roast wild boar (very fresh - they hunted and killed it that morning) I found it very interesting. It's normal for them. LordChaverly
The truth is, Sheffield has very little to see which would be of any great interest to tourists. It doesn't even have grand or imposing artchitecture ( of which both Manchester and Birmingham, and to some extent Leeds, can boast). it is basically a large workaday town. The Peak District is of course Sheffields' saving grace, but the city will never be a tourist hot spot.
firecracker
I'd have directed them to the Barnsley bus stop, and told them it goes to a Wizard of Oz theme park. And then hope you don't bump into them again
saxon51
And then hope you don't bump into them again Nah. Don't really expect them to survive once they've gone up to Big Ron Nutterthwaite outside 'The Queen's Fist' boozer and asked him if he's one of the munchkins. wonderwoman
I was at the Cathedral tram stop yesterday, and two tourists asked me what was good to see in Sheffield, where they should go - they'd already 'done' the city centre. I was slightly stumped...I love Sheffield, but it's one of those places where there's maybe not a lot to do if you're a tourist and want to go sightseeing. So what would other forummers have recommended? I managed to put them off going to Meadowhell or Hyde Park ("It's not like London's"), although the tram journey out that way is pretty good for views. i'd have sent them to the train station to catch the train to leeds lol. or i think i would have probably said go to the town hall theres a circus it's full of clowns.really serious this time i would have more than likely said sorry i cant help you i've lived in sheffield 30 years and i aint got a clue where to go for something to do or look at see if tourist information can help you

Agent Orange
Tell them there's more to South Yorkshire than Sheffield and direct them to places like Wentworth Woodhouse, Wentworth Castle, Conisborough Castle and other fine historic places throughout the county.
