Birth-Peace
Hi, I would like to start a new hobby and would just like to know what hobbies other forummers have and what started you on your hobby trail. Cheers
Ousetunes
Why not teach yourself a new language? Something more challenging, a language that requires you to learn a new alphabet/writing style, like Arabic, Greek, Chinese, Hindi. I taught myself Hindi with a Linguaphone Course and can now read, write and speak in Hindi (using their Devanagari script). It's incredibly satisfying! Failing that, why not learn to play an instrument? Learn to read music!

JoeP
I don't think you wnat to go near mine.... Amateur Radio, Amateur Astronomy, film making / radio production, writing, Webby stuff (surprise, surprise), and I wnat to get in to woodworking or some similar craft this year - I used to do more of that but packed it in years ago. I'm interested in other stuff, but I have a butterfly mind! Amateur radio has been my longest running hobby - 35 years man and boy. I got interested because my dad bought soem bits of electrical unkhome from work and I cobbled together a crystal set from it all, using the garden fence as an aerial. It could only receive Radio 2, but who cared!

Guest
Knitting . I'm into art and crafts in general, especially the textile arts (various forms of embroidery, spinning etc). I was set on going into that area from school, but as a girly swot, I was directed into science. Regreted it ever since, though I'm making up for it now . I'm doing courses in drawing and painting, textiles, metal work/jewellery making and pottery. I also do arty stuff with beads (weaving, jewellery etc). Non-arty stuff: running (though not at a serious level, more for fun and fitness), theatre, cinema, writing, walking etc. I also do some web page design with html and css (though I'm pretty rubbish at it). babychickens
what about yoga? i've never really got into it much (the purely physical aspect, not interested int he spiritual stuff), but whenever i've had a really good session i always feel immensly good for days (although i've never found any other way of making my entire body hurt for 3 days, either). very pleasing though, it makes you feel all healthy and nice. life drawing? good practice for honing your precision skills that you can use if you take up a different arty subject - i quite fancy jewellery making or watch making. i also quite fancy making a rather nice dolls house for my daughter for when she's old enough to care, so a bit of woodwork might be good. oddly, i imagine botanical drawing could be really satisfying - yu get to learn all exciting things about plants at the same time as making somehting beautiful! or how about some form of gardening - growing things and nurturing them to life is really gratifying. my husband has recently...don't laugh...started skipping. helping him get back in shape, and he can now do all kinds of exciting jumpy things that i couldn't do even as a child.
