Is the end of days coming?

Recommended Posts

Excuse the biblical title, but it's time for amateur eschatology hour! Do you think the human race is on the way out? If so when and how? What do YOU think is gonna happen?

Are we going to make the planet a barren inhospitable place with our rubish and greenhouse gasses?

Are the various groups around the world who have contented themselves with car bombs and guns going to go nuclear/biological?

Are the American religious right deliberately provoking the states into catastrophic action to fulfill their own end of the world prophecies?

Are emergant antibiotic resistant diseases going to sweep the world wiping out all in their path?

Will the cracks and disparaties in society become too much causing it to reach a critical mess and implode?

Or are we going to follow the route of history and muddle through by a mix of luck and sheer bloody-mindedness?

I thought we were already a few million years overdue for extinction.

I suppose that because we're the first species capable of causing it's own extinction, I'll have a bet on a self inflicted demise. Not sure who'll be in charge of bringing the end though.

What makes me dispair is how advances in technology are always driven by war :|

How true, - but if we put half the amountof time, effort and money into preserving life that we do into destroying life the world would have probably hit it's peak population capacity long ago.

I suspect the calamity when it arrives will be a series of natural disasters, some of which may be our fault, but the worst of them will be nature's own way of reminding us of just how unimportant we are in the scheme of things ;)

Yepp......evildrneil, I think we're gonna's, with all you quote & more, sorry to say, the difference with now & the past is we've evolved too technically & too quickly I'm affraid & there's no stopping it now.

If you look at the american indian way of life, whatever they took from nature, they replaced in some way, are we doing that... no!!! & what happened to them..... wiped out!!!

Most other species evolve & die, so will we.

The sad thing is it may be sooner than we think.

Come on you lot. What happened to the human spirit! It saddens me to see such defeatism.

Get up off your bums and do something to improve your life, then use the extra to improve somebody elses life!!!

But please... stop blaming everything and everyone else.

Exactly  The human race will never die out. For a start we can breed quite easily. :hihi:

More important than this though is the human spirit.

We are never defeated.

The number of times life has knocked me on my arse in the last fiftyfive years I cannot count.

For a while after each set back I have thought 'well thats it'.

Then your human brain comes to the fore and you think 'no bugger it, Im going forward'

While ever the instinct is in us to push forwards we can never lose.

If any one is feeling a little down, read the poem by Kipling 'If'.

That will make you feel and know that there are no limitations.
