Just a word of caution when buying a BMW....

They had problems with the cylinder linings on some of their engines made around this time. They used something called Nikasil, and the high sulphur content of British petrol can eat away at it, causing major (and very expensive to fix) problems.

If you google for BMW Nikasil you'll find out all about it. Definitely worth checking whether or not the engine on the one you fancy is affected, and if so, whether or not it's been fixed.

I'm fairly sure the nikasil problem was just on their V8s at the time, not the 6 cylinder engines.

...and i think the nikasil issue was sorted before 1995...

I was looking at a T reg (1999 I think) 528i, and that had one of the affected engines, which hadn't been fixed, so I kept well away.

This article gives a lot more detail:

http://www.e34v8.co.uk/nikasil.htm

Seems as though both 6 and 8 cylinder engines are affected, potentially from 1993 to 1998.

Definitely worth checking!
