willman
i am on the look out for "small" apple trees or ones grafted to dwarf root stock. these are to be planted to gether and ones that crop are preferred. can anyone recommend anywhere? my local garden centres want 30 quid for them and there already 6foot high, which is a bit expensive and close to the maximum height i can accomodate. Don_Kiddick
They are indeed! I'd forgotten that! (The root 'ball' is a bit tiny though, do you think they'll survive?)
Mrs Goose
There is a bloke called Julian Brandram in Meersbrook S8 who grows and sells fruit trees including old and unusual local varieties. He's great for information as well - I'm sure he'd be happy to chat about what you need. His website: http://www.appletrees.org.uk/ Current prices on the website: Apple and pear tree prices one-year-old maidens £14 each two-year-old bushes £17 each apple and pear cordons £20 each
torin8
They are indeed! I'd forgotten that! (The root 'ball' is a bit tiny though, do you think they'll survive?) Should do - just put them in lots of organic matter (when it's warmer) and stake them and I'm sure they will be fine.
Yellowrose
If you want them cheapish, autumn is usually the time to buy rootball ones. In autumn Netto and similar places have them for £3.99. I cant vouch for the quality except to say mine seem OK so far and mum has had pears from there which crop.
