PeteC
Use the bloody traffic lights>? i've only ever seen 1 who actually has the balls to step into the road to stop traffic - as they have the power to do In my view a lollypop lady who used traffic lights is a waste of taxpayers money - as any halfwit can hit the button what do you think? and yes i am a parent to save the " you have no idea" flaming
KenH
Perhaps it is because people don't stop at traffic lights.
pinklady
I would rather my child be supervised crossing a busy road than crossing alone ... even with the crossing on the subject of lollypop ladies, the one on brook hill in thorpe hesley is fab, she dresses up for EVERY occasion, knows the name of EVERY child that crosses with her and always has a smile on her face. you know who you are, keep it up ________
Heyesey
Use the bloody traffic lights>? i've only ever seen 1 who actually has the balls to step into the road to stop traffic - as they have the power to do It'd be very comforting to know, as they lay in hospital with multiple fractures and a severed foot, that they were actually in the right to step into the road when they did. Sometimes, having the power to do something doesn't mean it's sensible to go ahead and do it. If they just step into the road while traffic is moving, it's long odds-on they'll be run over - illegally, yes, but it'll happen despite that. I imagine they just don't want to get run over. Draggletail
I've known a couple of lollypop ladies, they reckoned that many drivers had no respect for their authority to stop traffic, they were driven at, honked at and verbally abused by drivers just for carrying out their job (and that's in 'peaceful' S11) I suppose by using the traffic lights they are just protecting themselves and the kids. Doing the job 'defensively' so to speak.

Lotti
Trouble is, a lot of young children don't understand how to use traffic lights properly and the lolly pop lady is there to supervise the use of the traffic lights and is probably trained in first aid in case any child should get injured on the road (although I don't know this for a fact). If I was a parent I'd be comforted knowing my child was being supervised when crossing even with a crossing. (Having said that, if they hadn't learnt to use the crossing, I think I'd still be walking with them)

My friend was a lollypop lady. She had just seen the children across and was going back to her side of the road when she got knocked down - result, foot and leg broken in several places, and all happening in front of the children!!! She now has pins in her leg and is disabled for life. Can people not see the bright clothing they all wear?
savbaby
Trouble is, a lot of young children don't understand how to use traffic lights properly I agree and disagree with this...yes some dont know how to use it and others just ignore them and copy the stupid adults that stand at the lights and when no cars or cars appraoching at distance cross over, teaching the kids bad habits. I am saying this because today this happend when i was driving towards a crossing, 2 young girls stood chatting and a man waiting too. He obviously was in a rush and walked out fast pace across the road. the young girls chatting saw him move and stepped out (without looking) right into my path. luckily i was keeping an eye on them and manage to miss them but whos fault would it have been if i had hit! Point i am making is its not so much kids no knowing how to cross its us that should know better teching bad habits!
