Accident On Halifax Road 28/9/06 @12.20.

Recommended Posts

I was driving down Halifax Road towards Hillsbrough and on the other side of the dual carriageway was a accident it looked like 2 cars and a van was involved. It looked quite bad,the traffic was in absolute caos.

I hope the young chap who had just got out of his car holding his head in his hands is ok.He looked very distraught to me.

I couldn't help as i was on the opposite side of the road, but i do hope no one was seriously hurt.

There were two accidents within a hour at exactly the same spot!

The second accient happened about 1:15pm this one seemed to involve just one car (a newish skoda) driven by a older man (he seemed ok).

When i was going back home i noticed the traffic still backed up to Leppings Lane roundabout but thought it was still due to the accident at 12.20,so i went up Claywheels Lane to miss the congestion, that was about 1 oclock.

You've presumed it was caused by speed. I saw it and would suggest it was caused by one of them crossing the junction when it wasn't clear.

I didn't see a truck there, maybe one had been moved. I saw a smashed up "shake that a***" style blue Renault Megane in middle of road.

Halifax Road from Cowper Ave down to the BP roundabout at Penistone Rd is one of the most dangerous, ridiculous roads I use. The central reservation is barely visible at night and cars constantly pull out of the junctions without stopping. The central reservation isn't wide enough for traffic turning right on or off the road. There are 3 sets of lights within 50 yards by Halfords. Traffic drives in the wrong lanes and there is constant jostling for position. I hate driving down there.

So what do dozy "casualty reduction unit" do? They put their equipment on the bit between Salt Box Lane and Cowper Ave where there aren't the same hazards, the limit is too low and the motorist are easy pickings. They also put speed cameras on the bit without the junctions in it. If there's anywhere in Sheffield that proves the cameras are sited for revenue not safety, it's there.

In fact though this accident happened only a few yards past the speed camera on the way up the road towards Grenoside, so I don't expect speed was a factor. Looked to me when I came past as though somebody had come out of the junction at the wrong time.
