boosh
Seems the powers that be dont want to give the police a reasonable pay award....why. The police officers have a hard job...pay them well and look forward to safer living? What do you think
KenH
I think they are high enough already. A new PC "on appintment" in South Yorkshire gets £20,397 A new teacher on their first appointment in Sheffeild gets £19,641 So a new PC who is unlikely to be a graduate and who will also get overtime get £400 more than a teacher. Cyclone
teachers don't generally work 12 hr shifts, nighttimes, with aggressive non compliant people, don't attend any unpleasant situations and don't have to work weekends... I can see why the police get paid more in the first place. What's the actual story here though, is it time for the annual pay review and the government have decided they get 0% or is it more interesting? princealbert
I think police get far to much and do bugger all for it,crime is as high as ever.Im a nurse and after 3 years at uni i earn just shy of 19.000.Time for a rethink.

boosh
Since 1979 when the police recieved a substantial pay increase so that their children did not need free school meals and the families needed suplimentary state benefits...part of the agreement was that police pay would be increased annually in accordance with a index that reflected average pay increases elsewhere in society. In other words the annual pay award is nothing more than a means to combat inflation to stop police pay sliding back to unacceptable low levels. The police do not have the right to strike,or to take any other forms of industrial action and so they are left to the mercy of politicians and public support. In brief the the normal index terms have run for since 1979 without hitch! and now without any warning the government has refused honour the index payment.......the police are only asking for normal indexation. Blooming eck - I work in the private sector (which according to popular myth is highly paid).... I have a degree, a masters and a PhD and 8 years worth of experience and I get the equivelent of a new PC:( Why do public sector workers all think they are so badly done by?
