Temporary Cameras popping up all over any idea what for?

Recommended Posts

Hi been out and about today and seen loads of what can only be described as security cameras they dont look like traffic light cameras cos not all near traffic lights but at junctions mostly they don`t look like any speed cameras I`ve seen before they are all powered of street lamps and have a large blackish coloured box at the base with the camera on a tall mast/pole the lamppost obscures them in some cases

The ones I`ve seen to name but a few are located

1 Junction top of Normanton Hill with Woodhouse Road in front of flats near N.r. Bates

2 Manor Top near netto over looking Traffic lights near tram stop to town

3 Top of prince of wales Road over looking the main cross roads (not the big one thats always there)

I don`t worry about things like this but just thought someone may know what there for... but just know I`m leaving myself open for silly answers if you do know pleaase let me know if you don`t don`t bother!

I have seen things that sound like this checking rad tax but they have always been next to a van at the side of the raod.

I suppose they may have popped a few extras around as they did with speed cams.

Just a guess

I believe that these are number plate cameras, to catch people who have not paid there car tax, etc. U may find further down the road there may be police waiting to spring out to stop cars.

One at junction of Ridgeway Road and Hollinsend Road. No vehicles nearby. This one actually covers a "No Left Turn Sign". Must be important.

I may be wrong but I believe these are put in place to monitor traffic movements and nothing at all to do with the police I Have not seen them yet but anybody who as travelled the major routes not motorways will have seen similar at the side of the road. on the motorways they are on every bridge you go under and they only pick up traffic movements. and the speed they are travelling

if u look u can normally see where they have been (i think they use the same cameras and move them about) they are tubular (ur not thinking about the dome type cameras r u, or the blue things on posts or on bridges (they are traffic master ones))?

How pointless. You can dodge having to pay the fines by simply sticking to the speed limit, without any of this hassle.

The Council also use these portable Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras for collecting traffic flow data.

If the camera's you are talking about are small, white, tubed shape and there's 2 or 3 of them next to each other and they are mounted on a newly painted black pole (mostly) then these are Automatic Number Plate Recognition camera's. They are being installed at most major junctions on the ring road around the city and also on the major routes into the city. If a stolen vehicle or other vehicle the police are interested in is spotted on them the police can be informed straight away and sent to the area.
