Yes Brunswick got it logged on a friend certificate when we got a Staff member from each pub we visited to sign it for his 21st. Schedule was a half in 36 pubs. We only managed 23 before he was left in a waste paper bin on the Moor. Happy days

a Berni Inn? wow!

is that what is now the dreadfully run-down Market Tavern, just below the castle market?

yes it was a Berni Inn, and was called The Old Number 12 . One of the Grand Met chain in the 70's.

My wife and I worked for them in 1978 to late 1979,

The pub on Exchange St. was called the Rotherham House at the time of it closing and is now the Market Tavern

The link is to the pub on Haymarket, which the OP wanted. According to the link the name changed from the Sun to the Old No 12.

As it shut nearly 20 years before I was born, I can't say too much else really, but maybe this link would help.
