D2J
G'day all, I've now become a dreamweaver convert having laid my hands on Dreamweaver 8.. I was once shown how to publish my site but to be honest, as I've usually worked in Frontpage and various other programs I've forgotten how. Do I really have to do this via FTP or is there a way I can just click here and there and it will publish (a little like Frontpage does)

muddycoffee
Yeah, you need to set up your ftp server and your webspace location and username and password Under "site", or "manage sites" and then it is easy peasy..
D2J
EDIT :::: Think I sussed it using WebDAV rather than FTP, panic will resume shortly
D2J
Maybe Im just not getting this, I hardly use FTP. I have no idea what to put in the boxes for the information its requesting..
Draggletail
You normally get that info when you sign up with your ISP D. Maybe you could mail them to get the details? On ours, using 'core ftp lite' (freeware) 'Host' is 'homepages.nildram.co.uk' (our ISP) 'Username' is the username registered with the ISP 'Password' - as registered with your ISP 'Port' on ours is 21, timeout is 6. No use to you at all though if you don't know the password and stuff though How's the Guiness?
muddycoffee
What's your Isp? it is dead simple to look it up from the ISP setup pages.
D2J
How's the Guiness? Hasn't been tested enough to provide conclusive results yet When I set up to manage a site in Dreamweaver 8 this is what it asks for when I proceed ' How do you connect to your remote server ' (which i assume is my website) then; 'What is the ftp address of your server' (which I assume is my domain but instead of www it will be ftp.) This is the one I don't know 'What folder on the server do you want to store your files in?' I know my FTP account and password which I set up in my domain control panel. Why do I need the ISP details?? I've never needed it before
muddycoffee
I am assuming you have webspace at your account with your ISP. If so you use FTP protocol to upload your web pages and files to that space. You usually have a copy of the whole website on your own hard disk and you copy everything to the remote webspace ( the live webspace at your ISP ) e.g. if you use blueyonder you need to enter. ftp.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk if you use plusnet ftp.force9.net
