Barnsley ASBO possible for youngest child yet!

TINY tearaway aged 10 who has terrorised a Kexborough neighbourhood for years could be one of the youngest ever to get an ASBO.

He stays out all night, drinks and smokes and has threatened several relatives with a knife.

Now a council meeting has been arranged to discuss the best way to handle him and Neighbourhood Safety Unit manager Paul Brannan said: “There are two issues to consider. One is the welfare of the community and the behavioural issues and the other is the welfare of the family and the child in particular.”

His mum finds him such hard work she has considered suicide.

He has threatened several relatives, including mum, with a knife, damaged property including cars, threatens people and is abusive.

The boys antics have nearly forced her and lorry driver husband to separate on several occasions.

His mum said: “Last week he attacked his grandma with a knife. I am fed up to the back teeth. I nearly topped myself last year and was put on antidepressants.

“A child at that age should be tucked up in bed and going to school every day but he ran off on Monday. He's just sleeping rough and hanging around - getting up to anything and hanging around with older lads.”

She has approached social services and begged them to take care of him so she can have a break.

At ten, surely the parents should be able to control him? Having said that, they obviously aren't able to, 'else the case wouldn't be in the media. I guess social services are being called upon to take him?

Seems awfully sad for the poor boy. He is still very young - one has to feel that with love and the right kind of family support he would be a changed child and free to grow up happily.

I can't help thinking that children who are this bad at such a young age might have problems outside of those caused by upbringing.

I also come across the odd "bad lad" near me that is labelled as being a terrible child and really there is often not much of a problem, other than with the people who label them.
