neeeeeeeeeek
I want to buy a new oven.. Being greedy I want a double oven, not a single oven with a seperate grill but a double oven. I currently have a gas oven and don't have one of those electric points with a red light so am not sure how good my wiring is, as a result I was going to buy another gas oven. Gas ones are more expensive to buy which I don't really mind but are they much more expensive to run nowadays with the increase of domestic gas prices? Also, do people prefer cooking with gas or electric? I have already bought a nice new gas hob so it's only the oven I am interested in. Cheers
KenH
Electric ovens with a gas hob is the best combination. Can't help with the wiring, but I think it is worth the trouble getting it done.
Strix
'which one is best?' is a secondary question to 'will I get on with the change?' If you're looking at electric, the tranistion may be easier if you choose a fan oven
Strix
Oh, btw, if it's only an oven, and not the hob, it can run off the ringmain, which is easier to install than running a whole new cable from the fuse box (but check with an electrician, as I'm not one )
medusa
I agree- I'd find it really hard to change now from my fan assisted oven, but every time I have to cook on an electric hob I get frustrated with it and the lack of immediacy. Lots of things take forever to heat up and then boil over or burn to the pan because the heat doesn't stop when you turn the heat off.
neeeeeeeeeek
I would never get an electric hob as I think they are terrible. I have always used gas ovens but know most people use electric ones now. I can get a gas fan assisted oven but it's a bit expensive. Oh, the trauma!! fox20thc
I have an electric cooker, fan assisted and its great, must disagree with the hob question, my ceramic hob get hot mega fast and unlike gas because there is residual heat once its turned off I can switch it off a good 5 mins before the end of cooking time so it saves me money. Strix
When we get the kitchen done, we'll be replacing our panasonic combi microwave with the same thing again. We bought it when our oven and microwave gave out at the same time, and have found it fantastic - especially for hurrying things along with a bit of microwaving, without making things go soggy
basshedz2
We've currently got an electric fan assisted oven with gas hobs and it works well. The only bad bit is that the oven and grill are combined - and i cant stand electric grills! I'd need a lot of convincing before i got electric hobs! neeeeeeeeeek
Hmm, juat had a word with my Electrician friend. It seems most electric ovens can now be plugged straight into the wall as they don't draw more than 11amps. Trouble is I want a double oven so would probably need the improved wiring.. Hmmmm....
