Guest Pauly
Not really a moan because there's far too many threads on the forum that do that already, just an observation and something that amused me. I was in Tesco on Ecclesall Road a week or so ago, Freshers Week I think, and couldn't help but notice that it seemed to be full of harrassed, pretentious and short tempered students huffing and puffing along the aisles, moaning to each other about having to live on a low budget (I did overhear a girl speaking to a fella about having to live on £1 a week. Don't exagerrate (sp) or anything love! ) and generally looking proper grumpy and even aggressive if you were unfortunate enough to be in their path. Death by student wasn't on my wish list that day though so I did my shopping with an amused smirk on my face, had a bit of a laugh with the lad sat on the till and drove home hoping not to cross any wandering freshers on the roads. God forbid they could be as grumpy and hot-tempered as the ones in the supermarket. Maybe they'll chill out a bit once they've been in Sheffield a while, although I'm not sure I'll be holding my breath.
pinklady
young 'living away from home for the 1st time' students make me laugh. Im a mature student, studying whilst being a mother of 2, hubby and house to keep, so i do know the meaning of preasure. The younger students constantly moan about having too much work (they havent got a mountain of ironing or 2 kids wanting 24/7 attention) they complain about early lectures because they dont want to get up early, they complain about late lectures because it messes with their social life .... and they constantly complain about being skint .... whilst they make arrangements to go out clubbing ( a must for Saturday, monday, wednesday, thursday and friday!) oh to be young again ! ________ TOYOTA CORONA EXIV SPECIFICATIONS

Strix
I'm thinking of running duvet covering sessions for freshly de-mothered stoodents, along with pot washing classes, and laundry tutorials Do you think the take up rate would be good? medusa
I actually had to teach one of the people I was in halls with how to wash her clothes- and what fabric conditioner was. I was stunned at the time, and I'm really glad that I didn't go on to share a house with her later, because she had never cooked a meal, washed her clothes or used a vacuum cleaner before she was 18. Before I came to Uni I thought it was my parents being gits for making me help out round the house- as soon as I got here I realised what good lessons they were (shortly around the time that my friends were failing to prepare pot noodles correctly and I was enjoying real food). Your post made me laugh , im a student and can relate to some of that..not wanting early lectures or late ones (for those reasons too!) , complaining about workload and having no money, though i don't go out every night (im just daft enough to run a car!) I have some mature student friends with famillies and they put me to shame honestly! They always do more reading than me, complete essays before me - and often get higher marks and they have kids to sort out, i don't know how they do it, i have upmost respect for them! Extremely! Could be a very nice money spinner for ya, especially the duvet covering session. They may discover that it's possible to put on a duvet cover without actually climbing inside it and becoming this year's halls ghost.
Twiglet
Freshers and all their stupid germs that they've brought with them have made me sick! Aside from that, at our University we're actually having serious trouble this year. The new batch of freshers have behaved more appallingly than ever before (and this isn't just mischief). Several have been in serious trouble with the police, we're just hoping it settles down now term time starts.
Guest Pauly
And after all those radio ads about new students watching out for criminals preying on easy targets new to city life eh? Maybe the criminals should be watching out for the freshers this year instead. Has the worm turned?
