ChrisIB
A recent survey has named Sheffield as the worst place in the UK for car theft. They reckon that you are five times more likely to get your car stolen here (apparently the Ford Orion is the most targeted).
peterw
That same insurance company has also named Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham and London. Sounds like it’s thinking of hiking premiums again.

kipper
I havent heard of anyone having there car stolen in my town, I dont know where they get the figures from. It may be that Sheffield has the largest fraudulent claims in the UK.
Silver
It may also be a good way to justify a premium hike
Paddy
Judging by the numerous posts on here about people suffering car crime then I think Norwich Union are right. Also they are referring to thefts from cars as well as theft of cars. See this BBC News article also. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/south_yorkshire/5375234.stm

I1L2T3
in three years living in woodseats two neighbours on our street had cars broken into, a neighbour across the street had a motorbike nicked and then the thieving gits come back half an hour later with a truck (backed up by a car full of heavies) to pick up his other motorbike. We've had our car vandalised and last week a gang of youths walked down the street at 3am kicking the doors of every car they walked past. I'd say that's a very high level of vehichle related crime, certainly worse than anywhere I lived in London.

Who the heck drives a ford orion, which is an outdated car that wont have as good security compared with more modern cars, sheffield must be the ford orion capital. Shiesh
Interesting to see that Middlesbrough is now 5th - when I lived there it was the well ahead on the car theft stakes!! Equally interesting is that Liverpool isn't even in the top 10!!!! That was always a car theft hot spot too in years gone by!!
