The old lady with the brass scales

I remember the lady in the old market who had a big throne- like weighing scale that you had to pay a penny or so to get weighed on. I also thought I remembered one at the gates of one of the parks, or maybe Whiteley Woods?  Can any one else remember or have I imagined it ??

Weston Park use to have big gates but they got stolen some time or other. I believe they were found many years later.

I remember well, mum and I used to get weighed there if we were shopping.  Don't remember the woman in the photo, sure it was someone much fatter. I wonder what happened to the scales. I liked the Norfolk Market Hall. Used to collect stamps and Dad bought me some most weeks. He would then take me for pie and peas, really old place  just inside and had wooden booths. Always seemed full.

As a kid i remember going to the rag and tag and standing in front of a stall that was full of Boiled Sweets of all kinds, if you stood there long enough the bloke would give you a sweet just to get you out of the way . My mum would leave me outside Granellis cafe ? with a glass of pop whilst she did her shopping .
