Twitcher
I was wondering how many of you out there have job descriptions that don't list all the tasks you do? Since a manager left I have been doing more responsible tasks, when the new manager came they did not pick up these tasks. I have brought this to the attention of the new manager listing all the differences and I asked for a re-grade. My new manager now has to ask her manager but because she holds the budget I already know the answer. Should I join a union and take this further? Should I refuse to do the tasks not on my JD. I don't want to cause bad feeling but I hate being put on, I just want some recognition of the role I do. Any ideas anyone, short of leaving (which I've been trying to do for ages but need these hours for childcare reasons).

Recruitguru
Can you imagine a contract of employment that stated everything you do in your work on a daily basis. It would be huge. Most statements, or contracts, of employment mention' "resonable tasks pertaining to the succesful execution of your job, may from time to time be expected". There are loads of employees out there who make cups of tea, clean their desks, hoover etc, etc. These duties are not mentioned in their jobs desc!! What I do have a problem with is that some roles I do regularly are not mine but the team leaders (and she is well aware of it!) and I just think recognition would be nice. I was given some of the roles because I am faster or more numerate than management..."Oh you can do this you're far better/faster than I am it just takes me ages........" but I ain't getting paid their salary, I'm just a commodity
