I'm sorry, but I have to disagree with the title of this thread. My daughter went to nursery at Longley school and it was absolutely terrible! In fact, on one occaision when I went to pick her up (bearing in mind she had ony just turned 4yrs old) the nursery staff simply looked at me blankly and asked me why I wasn't on my way home with my daughter! It turns out that they had 'misplaced' her in one of the other rooms, and that she had had no adult supervision for approx twenty minutes! You can imagine my reaction to that...

Another occaision of 'misplacing' children was when one of my daughter's classmates actually climbed out of the school yard and made his way home, without the teachers raising so much as an eyebrow! Granted, the whole of the fencing surrounding the school has now been replaced with much higher stuff, but to not notice the boy was missing? Oh dear... It was actually well documented in the Sheffield Star.

As for the rest of the school, well - to be honest I took my child out pretty quickly after that, but my sister is a dinner-lady there and she says that there has been no major changes which she has seen take place. On the other hand, I have two friends whose children attend Longley who have had no preoblems whatsoever...wish I could say the same...

So what did it say then? Just briefly...

Well it basically says that Longley was the only school in the City to fail.

The headmistress Fiona Connor has pledged to improve.

The school has been accused of failing to give pupils an acceptable standard of education and its overall effectiveness was inadequate.

standards were far too low and the pupils achievements were not good enough whilest the lessons were failing to meet the needs of all the pupils were holding back progress.

The children were not monitired closely enough and teaching and learning were ineffective.

Weak literacy and numeracy skills were leaving the youngsters unprepaired to face the future.

It goes on...........

I have briefly met Fiona, she's a nice lady and I think she will sort it out, to be fair the problems have arose from the old head and she is just there to pick up the pieces.

3 different heads in a year, senior staff demoralised, support staff undervalued, disruptive pupils given perks over well behaved children, bullying left unchecked, some dubious planning for Year 6 students, ie lots of temp teachers etc etc, one wonders why it got a poor report. My daughter's final parents evening was a farce, the teacher gave us the impression they couldn't care a toss about it as she was leaving and didn't know where her seat was in class (which sums it up)
